Over the last few days Barbie and myself were in Wales doing a couple of talks around the Cardiff area. On the Thursday evening Barbie gave a talk, and on the Friday evening I gave a talk, they both went down well..they want us back.

CHRISTMAS IN LONDON

Barbie and I spent Christmas in London, we stayed in a hotel at Covent Garden. We decided to go by train this year, we travelled up on the Friday, arriving at our hotel around two in the afternoon, in the evening we went to the theatre to see "Blood Brothers". On the Saturday we went to Camden Lock market for the day, on Christmas day we wondered around London taking photos as we went. On Boxing Day again we visited various places during the day, in the afternoon we went to the Ballet and saw the "Nutcracker" at the Colosseum theatre, quite a spectacular place. After the ballet we met up with My son Jamie who was back from Australia and is now staying in London with his partner Nate, we had a great time, we travelled back on the Tuesday

PAGB PRINT CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

Our photographic group was competing in the PAGB Print Championships at Conahs Quay on Saturday for the 6th year running, yet again we got into the finals, finishing in 5th place, a great result, Barbie and I stayed Friday and Saturday night near by and returned on the Sunday.

Over the past week Barbie and I have been staying near Eastbourne, we travelled down on the Friday. On the Saturday we went to Brighton for the Gay Pride parade had a good time. On the Sunday we walked the Seven Sisters from Eastbourne to Seaford, by the time we got to Seaford, Barbie was worn out and couldn't walk back, so I walked back on my own and got the car and drove round and picked Barbie up. On the Monday we drove to Dungeness for the day, on Tuesday and Wednesday we travelled around a bit and visited various places including the chalk man at Wilmington, I climb up and stood on him..which not supposed to do..oh well.On the Thursday we went back to Brighton, travelling back home on the Friday via the Isle of Sheppey in Kent.

BEYOND GROUP NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

Over the weekend it was the judging of the 4th "Beyond Group" National Open Exhibition, we set up the hall on the Friday afternoon and the judging took place all day Saturday and part of Sunday. We had over 3000 digital images in three sections (Colour,Monochrome & Nature) from photographers from all over Great Britain which had to be reduced to about 500 images by the judges, so you had a 1 in 6 chance of getting an acceptance. For the first time we had two print sections (Colour & Monochrome) where we had over 600 prints, which had to be reduced to 170, so you had a 1 in 3.5 chance. We use three top exhibition judges to do the job using a silent scoring machine, then discussing with each other to pick the awards. We always have two judges from outside the region and one from the Beyond Group or within the EAF region, we had Peter Young from Bromsgrove, Leo Rich from Salisbury and Me (Rusty Lindsay) from the Beyond Group. On Sunday Barbie and Myself went to Camden, we met up with a couple of friends at Camden Lock market, but on the way Barbie wanted to visit Amy Winehouse's flat to see the tributes left outside.

PAGB DPI CHAMPIONSHIPS AT WARWICK

On Saturday we went to the PAGB DPI National Championships at Warwick University, where our Photo group (Beyond Group) were representing the EAF by competing against over 35 clubs from all over Great Britain, for the sixth year running. We came seventh in the end, yet again making our group one of the top ten clubs in the UK, because we finished in the top eight, we automatically qualify for next years competition, next up is the PAGB Print National Championships at Connahs Quay, where again we will be representing the EAF for the sixth year running.

Barbie and I were two of the three judges for the Edinburgh International exhibition, we got the train to Edinburgh Thursday after work, we spent the Friday and Saturday judging the exhibition. We had 2200 prints to go through, we were well looked after by the Edinburgh Photographic Society, staying in a nice hotel near the venue. Got the train back on the Sunday, we had a great time.

GRASS SNAKES AT ALTON WATERS

On Saturday I took Barbie to see the Grass Snakes at Alton Waters, she wanted to photograph them, so I went snake hunting, I found quite a few. There is an area which has been set up to encourage the snakes to breed with mounds of compost material with black plastic or corrugated iron sheets on top. This is because Grass Snakes like to lay eggs in composting material and warm themselves up under the sheets, I found mostly young snakes, and a lot of them were beginning to slough which means they are going to shed their skin, you can normally tell by the way their eyes have a blue film over them.

Barbie and I have had a few days off over Easter, for a change the weather has been good, in fact you would think it was the height of summer with temperatures of 26 degrees centigrade. We have spent most days at Alton Waters near by to where we live, it is so hot that the Grass Snakes are out a bit early, On one day we took Skye our young Granddaughter, she had great fun.

On the Saturday we walked a lot around London, visiting the Tate Modern, the National Portrait Gallery and a few smaller galleries, where we saw an exhibition of Mapplethorpe photography (not for the faint hearted). On the Sunday we went to Camden Lock Market.

The photo group that I am a member of, the "Beyond Group" was representing the EAF in the PAGB Print Championships at Conahs Quays on Saturday, this was the 5th year running that the group has done this, and again for the 5th year running the group got into the finals. In the end finishing in 8th place out of 36 clubs from all over Great Britain, putting the "Beyond Group" in the top 8 clubs in Great Britain for 5 years running, not a bad record, congratulations to all the members. A few of us went for a meal afterwards at a local pub where we decided to have a impromptu jam session..don't ask...

Over the last five days Barbie and I have been staying in London as a break, we travelled up on the Thursday and stayed at a Travelodge near Heathrow. On the Friday we took the tube into London, we did a lot of walking, visiting the Tate Modern, Southwark Cathedral and City Hall, plus various other places like the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery. In the evening we went and saw the play "Ghost Stories" at the Duke of York theatre. On the Saturday we drove down to Brighton for the "Gay Pride" event, we had a great time. On the Sunday we spent the day at Camden Lock Market, this is always good. Again on the Monday we got the tube into London and this time went to "Brick Lane" walking around taking photos of the area, lots of graffiti and urban art around the streets. Back home on the Tuesday, stopping off at the Largest Hindu Temple outside India near Neasdon "Baps Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir".

Just got back from judging the Southamton International Exhibition, Barbie was one of the other judges along with Sandy Cleland from Scotland. We judged the Nature prints, nature digital and the open digital, we had over 6000 images to go through, we started on the Friday morning and finished the Saturday in the afternoon. Had a good time and the hospitality by Southampton was excellent, my thanks go to Glyn Edmunds, Maurice Pugh, Chris Palmer and all the others.

We went to London at the weekend to visit the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum in Kensington, when we got back to the car, we had a parking ticket for £120, it was a bit puzzling, seeing as far as we were concerned we had not parked illegally, also we never noticed the ticket until we were almost home as it was well hidden on the passenger side under the air intake vent on the car?. Barbie took charge and contacted the South Kensington council appealing against the ticket..good news we got a letter of apologies and the ticket was cancelled..I wonder how many people would have paid the ticket, thinking they were in the wrong..good little earner ...the phrase "corrupt Council" comes to mind..!

SCOTLAND

For the last week we have been up in Scotland, we were doing a lecture tour plus judging the GB cup at Dumfries. We had some dodgy weather on the way up on the Tuesday, but while we were in Scotland it was cold but ok, even went to Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe. The Wednesday evening we did a lecture for Dumfries and on the Thursday evening we were at Paisley, we were also due to do a lecture at Carluke on the Friday but this was cancelled due to adverse weather. All day Saturday and the Sunday morning were judging the GB cup, out of the nine judges only us and one other made it, so we were very busy. On the way way home today we had some bad weather at Leeds, but made it home safely.

Over the weekend Barbie and Myself were doing lectures for the RPS North West Region at the Glenridding Hotel at Ullswater in the Lake District, seemed to go down very well. Had a long drive up there on the Friday night, took 9 hours due to hold ups on the M6, got home a lot quicker on the Sunday only 5 hours.

I have noticed several of my images are being used on the internet without my permission, I suppose this is one of the hazards of putting your images on them web, I don't mind people using my images for non-commercial purposes as long as they accredit the photo to me. Normally this happens, but what does annoy me however is when my images are used commercially without my permission or given any recognition at all. I don't really want to put copyright all over my pictures or stop people downloading them. The photo above "BONDAGE BUNNY" is one of my most used images with and without permission.

SHREWSBURY OPEN EXHIBITION 2009

I was one of the three judges at the Shrewsbury National Photographic Exhibition (BPE) on Saturday, Barbie was also one of the judges and Ralph Duckett from Cannock was the other. We had over 2500 projected images to go through and score to finish up with the final exhibition and awards, it was a long but enjoyable day.

Next wekend Barbie and I are going to the LONDON TATTOO CONVENTION at Tabbaco Dock, we have been going there ever since it started about 5 or 6 years. Last year it was held at Tabbaco Dock for the first time, it used to be held in Brick Lane at the Old Brewery, Tobbaco Dock was fantastic, Dilana was performing there, she and her Band were the best live act I have seen in a long time, got some great photographs. Looking forward to this years, don't know who is is performing this year, have to find out...
